There is a story that comes from afar.
The hill that houses the Sun Workshop is located in the town of Montegiorgo, in an area known as Monte Milone. It is said that the name derives from the first owner, centurion Milone, a war veteran in the famous Battle of Actium in 31 B.C. Emperor Augustus allotted each war veteran a piece of land, while he gave Milone a gift of an entire hill due to his valor demonstrated in the field. The choice was not accidental; that hill was given to him as a gift not only because of its strategic location, but especially because of the richness of its land characterized by a decided temperature range and soil rich in clays and water. This enabled the cultivation of the first rows of vines, olive trees and fruit trees since that time. Lands filled with history, witness to a fascinating thousand-year tradition of cultivation.
…And there is a recent story from a few years ago.
“It all started from a dinner at a farmer friend’s house: it was an early summer evening spent in merriment, and with us was my youngest son, then 14 years old. I remember his expression as he stared in curiosity at the calves slumped there in the yard; it was the first time he had seen them and he could not take his eyes off them. It was at that moment that I realized the differences between my generation and his, despite all the information tools available to today’s young people, in fact, few are able to have direct experience of what nature offers on a daily basis, and not because of a lack of interest on their part but, rather, because of the lack of opportunities in which they can come into contact with that wonderful world and its varied beauty. Out of all this came an idea that in a few years became a pure passion project. I chose this hill because of its unique characteristics related to exposure, location, and the morphology of the land but, to be honest, what struck me from the beginning was the fact that from its highest point it allows a 360-degree view of the landscape all around, the neighboring villages, the hills, the sea and the mountains in the distance, and I immediately wondered why such a beautiful place could be abandoned for well over twenty years. Even today, when I need to, I go there, whether it is a beautiful day or not matters little, there one can enjoy a unique spectacle that is never out of time for the eyes and the heart.”
