Santa Stefano’s top cuvée is an uncompromisingly powerful red wine with an unmistakable style and huge presence. In the glass it glows a very dark, youthful cherry red. Radiant and crystal clear in fragrance, wonderful notes of cherry juice, flowers, smoke and a little vanilla. The palate with a powerful and firm tannic structure, well balanced by acidity, with intense fruit and good fullness exactly fitting. A rock of a wine with enormous aging potential.

Strict yield regulation in the vineyard, manual harvesting, fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks, aging in French barriques for 12-16 months.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon
40% Merlot
10% Petit Verdot

It all started in 2001, when Wolfgang Reitzle bought the “Villa Bertolli,” located in Lucchesia, along with some olive groves and a vineyard of about one hectare.

Following the Bertolli family’s sale of its namesake brand to Unilever, Messrs. Reitzle and Ruge renamed the villa in honor of the picturesque ninth-century parish church located nearby. Thus “Villa Santo Stefano” was born.

At present, the company produces about 30,000 bottles of red and white wine as well as 2,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil in its 11 hectares of land.
