Very intense and deep crimson color; rich and complex bouquet with notes of red fruits such as currant, cherry and black cherry under spirits. A full bodied, smooth and harmonious wine, rich in noble tannins, with a pleasantly persistent finish. The spicy notes of cinnamon, coffee and vanilla make it particularly enveloping, velvety and elegant.
After destemming, the grapes are not crushed in order to keep the skin intact and to optimize color extraction. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature of 23-25ºC for 8-10 days with selected yeasts recommended for this grape variety. During fermentation, frequent pumping over and delestage are performed to achieve smooth flavors and polished tannins. After racking the malolactic fermentation starts.
The company is located in the Municipality of Maruggio, in the hamlet of Roselle. It is located about 5 km from the Ionian Sea and in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria PDO.
In Apulia the
Masseria
was once the heart of vast landed estates, surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves.
Similar to a Spanish “hacienda”, they were self-sufficient and included several buildings for housing livestock and fodder, wine making and oil pressing.
Furthermore, in this particular area of Puglia, lying between vineyards and olive groves, you can find numerous ancient dry stone houses (huts) called Trulli (Italian plural for Trullo). The Trulli of this area are better known as Trulli Saraceni, as they differ from the more traditional Trulli of the Itria Valley (north of the Masseria) as they have a domed roof instead of a cone.
