Harris Island Gin

A maritime gin from the island of the same name, flavored with, among other things, sugary seaweed and distilled with eight other botanical herbs in an old copper still. By the way, no other gin is made with sugar algae!

Maritime aroma with notes of juniper and citrus, as well as a slight spiciness. Long, dry finish with a salty note.

Herbal extracts used: juniper, coriander, angelica root and iris, pepper, bitter orange peel, licorice bark and cassia, cinnamon and sugarweed

The Isle of Harris in northern Scotland is actually better known for peat whiskey. Since 2015, the Isle of Harris Distillery has been producing the eponymous gin, which is meant to pay homage to the island. It is cooked in an old copper still, affectionately called “The Dottach.” By the way, the name comes from a rather bitter and annoying woman from Tarbert, the town where the distillery is located. In addition to classic botanical ingredients such as juniper, coriander, angelica root and iris, pepper, bitter orange peel, licorice and cinnamon cassia bark, Isle of Harris Gin also uses sugary seaweed for flavoring. This is collected by a diver in the kelp forests of the Outer Hebrides and gives the gin a salty, maritime feel. The motto of the bottles is also maritime: simple in design but with a slightly rough, rippled relief, it is meant to represent the restless sea of Luskentire.
