“The Bacialé,” in Piedmontese dialect, is the matchmaker, the one who arranges marriages. This wine in fact comes from a perfect marriage of barbera and other grapes.

First produced with the 1994 vintage, Braida’s “il Bacialé” is more than a wine. “il Bacialé” is a Rosso del Monferrato that represents a project, born precisely in the mid-1990s and aimed at exalting a terroir capable of hosting at its best both international grape varieties and Barbera.
So it was then that more than two decades ago this marriage was first celebrated: a union that is now strengthened, with the completion of the project came cabernet franc to enrich the blend already formed by barbera, pinot noir, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. A final, balanced, drinkable, clean and fragrant blend today, processed in steel and aged in barrels for at least one year.
At the end of the games what we have at the glass is a Rosso del Monferrato that for the Braida winery is a true tribute: a tribute “To the purity of origin. To the Land that generates, that cradles, that welcomes. To the Land that knows!”

The hand-harvested grapes are further sorted by experienced staff before soft destemming-crushing that ensures greater berry integrity and avoids unwanted herbaceous notes. Fermentations take place in steel vats, which better than other materials ensure that they take place in contamination-free environments and that temperature can be kept under control. During fermentation, pumping over (daily about every 6 hours) and délestage (a couple in the first 15 days) are carried out for a total period of about 3 weeks. At the end, the wines are racked into barrels to optimize color stabilization and the progress of malolactic fermentation. This is followed by aging in barrels selected according to the different types of wine for 12 months and finally blending.
Blending is preceded by careful tasting to decide on the composition, which may vary percentage-wise each year.

Aging in barrels selected according to the different types of wine for 12 months

Taste: it is warm and pleasant, harmonious, characterized by a closure of good persistence on aftertaste of plums, pepper and cinnamon

Aroma: It is well balanced in every scent, with the fruity notes of blackberries and currants joining well-calibrated spicy nuances

Awards and honors: 92 points J. Suckling – 2019 vintage

The Braida winery is a great example of passion and dedication, passed down over several generations to the point of writing an important history of Piedmontese enology. This important family business was founded in 1961 by Giacomo Bologna, regarded worldwide as the father of modern quality Barbera. It is Giacomo Bologna Braida who is credited with having restored dignity to Barbera d’Asti, enhancing the characteristics of the terroir and those of the grape variety by using French barriques for aging. The estate vineyards cover 56 hectares near Asti, specifically in Rocchetta Tanaro, Castelnuovo Calcea, Costigliole d’Asti, Mango d’Alba and Trezzo Tinella, hosting not only Barbera vines but also Moscato, Brachetto, Grignolino, Chardonnay and others. This gives rise to a range of expressions of absolute prestige and very high quality standards: a range of modern and very expressive Braida wines, embellished with very attractive design labels and which, in their diversity, manifest a great passion for quality and excellence.
