- Description
Very deep ruby red with a clear violet sheen. The nose is broad and sharp, with notes of cinnamon, mulberries and blueberries, peppers, cocoa and licorice. The palate is very harmonious, with good structure. The finish is long with pleasant jammy notes.
Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, then malolactic fermentation. 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, half new and half used. Stored in bottle for another six months.
The estate, which bears the name “Donna Olimpia 1898” (Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno and bride of Gherardo della Gherardesca, who gave her name to the estate in 1898 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their marriage), has an area of about 60 hectares all located in the Bolgheri DOC and covers a strip of land that goes from Km 167.8 of the Aurelia state highway inland for about 1.2 km; the morphology of the land is flat and cultivated for 45 hectares with vineyards and partly with arable land.
