A special bottling for the 25th anniversary and the opening of the Citadelle distillery in October 2021. It matures for a month in juniper barrels. Fresh notes of orange combined with notes of green juniper.

The aim of the producers was to create a gin where the juniper played a role important and, indeed, it is felt very clearly both on the nose and on the palate. On the nose, the juniper is accompanied by floral notes and notes of sweet orange and, if you are careful, also by the spicier notes of cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate, on the other hand, the juniper emerges at the beginning and then leaves room for the more aromatic notes of the other botanicals and for the more citrusy ones, to culminate in the dry and spicy finish.

The original recipe of Citadelle Gin dates back to the end of the 18th century and was developed by Carpeau and Stival in the Citadelle of Dunkirk in what was the exclusive distillery of the King of France for twenty years. Alexandre Gabriel at the end of the 80s decided to recreate this gin in the Pierre Ferdinand Cognac distillery, in the city of Cognac, with a more modern method even if similar to the ancient one and with the addition of botanicals that could not be found in the 1700s . Although the first batch was already perfected in the late 1980s, due to the French bureaucracy it was only in 1995 that permission was given to produce and market Citadelle Gin.

Citadelle Gin is not distilled all year round, but only between March and November , and with a small Charentais still, one of those in use since the 18th century. In fact, this gin is among the very few to use an open flame system, which fell into disuse after the invention of less dangerous methods. Producing this gin takes a long time, in fact the botanicals remain in infusion for 79 hours before distillation and the open flame system requires a full day of work , but this slowness allows you to eliminate the head and tail with great precision by selecting only the heart of the gin.
