If there is anything that has characterized the Cañas family from the beginning, it is perfection, dynamism and curiosity. Their winemaking origins date back more than two centuries, although the first family winery was established in Rioja Alavesa in 1928. However, it was not until 1970 when Luis Cañas stamped his name on the label of his ‘harvest wine’ (vino de cosechero). From this date on, this Rioja winery gradually experienced increased marketing and began to develop what is now one of our country’s exemplary wineries. Juan Luis, his son, is currently one of the most curious and innovative winemakers. The experience and know-how of the winery team have enabled their wines to be recognized with the most prestigious national and international awards. In 2008 the new challenge of making great wines in an exceptional land, Ribera del Duero, was born. This land was visited many times by Juan Luis until he found his dream vineyards; old vines, some a hundred years old, old vines, low yielding, but generous in character to give their best in every bunch.
