Deep ruby red with violet hues. The nose has hints of small red fruits, herbs and spices. In the mouth it is rich in body, with still exuberant tannins and a good acidic streak.

After maceration and fermentation for 12-18 days in stainless steel tanks, malolactic fermentation and aging in tonneaux for 18 months, Nepomuceno, after being blended, matures in large barrels for another 18 months.

It results in a wine of great character and personality.

Cantrina takes its name from a characteristic village in the municipality of Bedizzole, in the Valtènesi area of the Brescia hinterland of Lake Garda. The farm is small, with about 8 hectares of land in an area of moraine origin, family-run and founded by Cristina Inganni and Diego Lavo. The first bottles date back to 1999. Cristina and Diego consider their vineyard and cellar work “a free exercise of style,” free from preconceptions and conditioning, under the banner of creativity, but with full respect for the peculiarities of the territory. The vines grow in medium-textured soils that tend to be clayey, traced by millennia of river and glacier movement. Cantrina’s production is varied: from the typical Valtènesi, made from groppello gentile and groppello di mocasina, typical Brescian varieties, versatile and with fruity hints that become spicy with evolution, to Cantrina Nepomuceno Benaco Bresciano IGT, a red wine with a strong personality made from merlot, rebo and marzemino grapes, perfect with long-cooked meat main courses and aged cheeses. Other wines produced include the white Rinè, a blend of riesling, chardonnay and Manzoni crossbreed, which is fresh, mineral and persistent, to be paired with lake fish; Zerdì, made from pure rebo (a varietal obtained by crossing merlot and teroldego); and the pleasant Rosanoire, a rosé pinot noir with tantalizing hints of fruit and flowers, perfect throughout the meal. One of a kind, Dario’s Sole, produced only in the best vintages, a white raisin wine made from sauvignon, semillon and riesling, of great complexity and structure, sweet but never cloying: with its persistence it can deliciously accompany blue cheeses or accompany dried fruit or high cocoa percentage dark chocolate at the end of a meal.
