- Description
Probably Familia Torres’ most famous wine, the legendary Mas La Plana was one of the first Cabernets in Spain and, with its 1970 vintage, beat all the great wines at the Gault Millau Wine Olympics in Paris in 1979.
The vines are between 40 and 55 years old and grow in a single vineyard of 29 hectares. Black and red impenetrable in the glass. Intense and diverse aromas, cedar wood, cassis, floral scents, cigar tobacco, graphite, radiant and pure. Strong and juicy, dense, fresh-looking, very delicious fruit extract, lingering long with coconut, tar, tobacco.
A classic and a must for any Cabernet enthusiast!
18 months aging in French barriques, 85% of which are new.
Awards: 97 points, Wine Enthusiast and 93 points, Robert Parker
Familia Torres founded its winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870, 150 years ago, but its roots in Penedès’ winemaking traditions go back to the 16th century. Each generation has passed down the passion for wine culture from parents to children, a passion built on deep respect for the Earth and tradition, as well as faith in innovation. Today, the goal of the fifth generation is to produce wines from exceptional vineyards and historic estates, as well as to recover ancestral varieties as a way to adapt to climate change. Since 2008, Familia Torres has taken active measures to combat the climate emergency, implementing adaptation and mitigation measures to reduce its carbon emissions. Familia Torres has a historical connection with Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Costers del Segre, but now its presence extends to vineyards and wineries in Spain’s main wine regions-Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Rías Baixas-and in Chile and California. Familia Torre is a member of Primum Familiae Vini, an association representing 12 of the world’s oldest and most prestigious wine families, and is a founder of International Wineries for Climate Action, which promotes decarbonization of the wine industry.
