Atis is the name of a mythical king, nephew of Zeus, whom a legend places at the origins of the Etruscans, the first civilization in our land and the first viticulturists in Italy (from the 12th century B.C.). They cultivated the vine as they saw it in nature, climbing a tree. The Etruscan vine “wedded” to the tree, depicted on the label, became, in classical Latin culture, the symbol of endless love.

THE VINEYARD: THE FOUNDATION
OF A GREAT WINE.

Our intent is to make terroir wine. This means that we try, with our careful work, to indulge and enhance its unique characteristics, what the Latins called
Genius Loci
, the Spirit of Place. We thus express elegant, complex wines with great personality.

The main part of our vineyards is located in the best area of Bolgheri, on the first slopes of the hills. In total, the area planted with vines is about 20 ha.

The vineyards are surrounded by Mediterranean scrub forests and olive groves. They are naturally grassed and managed with the care and knowledge of the winemaker, sustainably according to the holistic principles of integrated viticulture.

At Guado al Melo we have a remarkable biodiversity of grape varieties. We wanted to retrace the entire history of our territory, from the most contemporary to the most traditional, to the oldest Mediterranean tradition, the co-planting of several varieties in a single vineyard.
