Rute comes from the Etruscan word meaning “red.” The Etruscans were the oldest civilization in our territory and the first to cultivate vines in Italy (from at least the 12th century B.C.). The bunch of grapes is a detail of the vine shoot we chose as the logo of Guado al Melo, one of the oldest representations of this subject found in Italy (probably 11th century B.C.).

THE VINEYARD: THE FOUNDATION
OF A GREAT WINE.

Our intent is to make terroir wine. This means that we try, with our careful work, to indulge and enhance its unique characteristics, what the Latins called
Genius Loci
, the Spirit of Place. We thus express elegant, complex wines with great personality.

The main part of our vineyards is located in the best area of Bolgheri, on the first slopes of the hills. In total, the area planted with vines is about 20 ha.

The vineyards are surrounded by Mediterranean scrub forests and olive groves. They are naturally grassed and managed with the care and knowledge of the winemaker, sustainably according to the holistic principles of integrated viticulture.

At Guado al Melo we have a remarkable biodiversity of grape varieties. We wanted to retrace the entire history of our territory, from the most contemporary to the most traditional, to the oldest Mediterranean tradition, the co-planting of several varieties in a single vineyard.
