Oliviero Toscani’s base wine is a flavorful, strong, uncomplicated red wine. Fresh on the nose with cooked berries, some herbs and slightly smoky notes. Easy-drinking and smooth on the tongue, very pleasant to drink with a nice, slightly creamy fruit extract.

Oliviero Toscani: No wine? No heavean, no hell

In the late 1960s my father Oliviero Toscani had enough courage and foresight to build his own house in Casale Marittimo: a tiny hamlet on the Tuscan coast, in the hills and a few kilometers from Bolgheri. He bought a small farm with some land all around and brought two horses. Every year he invested all his savings by purchasing land. He did not believe in bricks but believed in the earth. He was damn right! My father has always been a determined, subversive and visionary creative. These same qualities made him achieve an outstanding career and build a farm of unquestionable beauty.

After planting more than 4,000 olive trees, raising Appaloosa horses, Cinta Senese pigs, Angus cows and homing pigeons, my father and I felt our project was missing something: a vineyard. In the late 1990s we were inspired by our friend Angelo Gaja and decided to plant one of the most striking vineyards in Tuscany. Thanks to a team of experienced winemakers like Attilio Pagli and Valentino Ciarla and agronomist Federico Curtaz, we finally planted a beautiful amphitheater-shaped vineyard 350 meters above sea level with a breathtaking view of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
