- Description
Primitivo grapes are carefully selected from low-yielding vineyards in the province of Taranto, southern Apulia.
Intense ruby red color, aromas of black cherry, plum, spices and white pepper.
In the mouth it is full-bodied, velvety and elegant, with soft but firm tannins and a long, lingering finish.
Frequent pumping over and delestagens are performed during fermentation to achieve delicate extraction of flavors and polished tannins.
After racking, malolactic fermentation is initiated.
The farm is located in the municipality of Maruggio, in the hamlet of Roselle. It is located about 5 km from the Ionian Sea and in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria PDO.
In Apulia, the Masseria was once the heart of vast landed estates surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves. Similar to a Spanish “hacienda,” they were self-sufficient and included several buildings for housing livestock and fodder, winemaking and oil pressing.
Moreover, in this particular area of Apulia, lying among vineyards and olive groves, one can find numerous ancient dry-stone dwellings (huts) called Trulli (Italian plural for Trullo). Trulli in this area are better known as Trulli Saraceni, as they differ from the more traditional Trulli of the Itria Valley (north of the Masseria) in that they have domed roofs instead of cone-shaped ones.
Hence the name Masseria Borgo dei Trulli.
