- Description
A historically inspired liqueur made with coffee, Jamaican rum and Madagascar vanilla
Tia Maria is a liqueur made from Jamaican rum, Blue Mountain coffee and vanilla. It contains 20 percent alcohol and is the best-known coffee liqueur along with Kahlúa. In Jamaica, its production has a tradition dating back more than 300 years. The name Tia Maria, meaning “Aunt Mary,” was given to him in the 18th century. According to legend, a maid named Mary saved this recipe from being burned at the stake during a war in colonial times. Out of gratitude, the mistress named the recipe after the maid. This family recipe was rediscovered by a scientist and a connoisseur only in the 1940s and later put on the market. It is drunk neat, with milk or ice, and is also used as an ingredient in cocktails.
Tia Maria is one of the most popular coffee liqueurs
