- Description
A southern wine with opulence and drama – for special moments
Kischrot rich and dark. Intense and complex in aroma, reminiscent of fruit compote, thyme, cedar and tree resin. Full and strong, very creamy and fruity, rich, fine-grained tannic structure, persistent with nice fruit for a long time.
This wine owes its name to the walls that protected the Poblet Monastery from wars and mercenaries. The unmistakable identity of Grans Muralles is found in the stony slate soils (Llicorella), but also in the varieties derived from them. After a century of phylloxera plague, the Torres family has managed to extract extinct native varieties such as Garró and Querol using modern viticultural techniques. These varieties, together with Garnacha tinta, Carinena and Monastrell, form the spirit of this unique wine. Aged in new French barriques for 18 months.
44% Carinena
29% Garnacha
3% Garro
5% Monastrell
19% Querol
Awards: 94 points, James Suckling and 93+points, Robert Parker
Familia Torres founded its winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870, 150 years ago, but its roots in Penedès’ winemaking traditions go back to the 16th century. Each generation has passed down the passion for wine culture from parents to children, a passion built on deep respect for the Earth and tradition, as well as faith in innovation. Today, the goal of the fifth generation is to produce wines from exceptional vineyards and historic estates, as well as to recover ancestral varieties as a way to adapt to climate change. Since 2008, Familia Torres has taken active measures to combat the climate emergency, implementing adaptation and mitigation measures to reduce its carbon emissions. Familia Torres has a historical connection with Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Costers del Segre, but now its presence extends to vineyards and wineries in Spain’s main wine regions-Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Rías Baixas-and in Chile and California. Familia Torre is a member of Primum Familiae Vini, an association representing 12 of the world’s oldest and most prestigious wine families, and is a founder of International Wineries for Climate Action, which promotes decarbonization of the wine industry.
